About Me
I'm a painter and graphic designer, basically here as a portrait artist. I like doing semi-impressionist or semi-abstract work, but can also do accurate portraits, pencil sketches, etc -- I've also got good Photoshop skills for combining hand-drawn art with abstract graphic design, photos with painting, etc. My design approach is heavily influenced by jazz. I do portraits on commission and the usual range of advertising graphics work, as well as working in Illustrator, InDesign, etc -- also good skills/equipment as a photographer.
As an artist: you want to do the stuff that a camera can't do (express something more strongly, or express it differently -- either the idea, or the feeling). Maybe just by painting technique, how you handle a brush and apply color, maybe by adding design motion, etc. Although skills are needed, my basic approach is not to try to imitate a camera but to add to it. The photos of my stuff here are just what I happen to have on hand -- actually not really a good sampling of my stuff. I'll make this more complete at some point. Although you can see my lists lean towards facial contours and "stance" poses (also hand gestures etc for reference), or compositional stuff that suggests something I might like to capture in a painting, I really do appreciate the whole range of approaches I see on MM. Some images are just SO GOOD you have to add them to SOME kinda list. Nice to see it all. Lighting, contours, stances, designs. Thanks for adding to it. I appreciate comments of any type.
