About Me
"At first, one sees the person who is modeling; but little by little, all of the possible sculptures that could be made come between artist and model." (Alberto Giacometti)
September 2015 update I'm back in New Mexico! I am eager and look forward to meeting and working with the amazing talent in this part of the country, and that includes models, photographers, makeup artest and anyone else that shares the same passion as I do. I am a professional Portrait and wedding photographer who has been photographing in New Mexico for several decades. My work is on display in galleries, restaurants and private homes from the Southwestern U.S., to Hinsdale and Downers Grove, Illinois to Bosnia, Italy and Switzerland. Over the past 4 years I have explored portrait and boudoir Photography and truly get a joy out of showing women just how beautiful they are. I plan on devoting a great deal of 2012 developing my art and building a quality portfolio. I feel that all the great models and photographers of this site will be my inspiration and I look forward to meeting you and working with you. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have an idea for a session. Pleas visit my website: www.davidoterophotography.com or email me at: [email protected] OK I have to get this out of my head because I just can't stand it any longer. I find models and photographers discussing, even arrogantly demanding, how they won't/shouldn't work with anyone who doesn't have a 'concept' for the shoot beforehand. I've been hearing it for years, and it always makes me laugh. No offense to professionals doing focused shoots with props, but I find 'concepts' to often be a very silly idea, except when you're working in a blank studio. Even then, the best artistic nude work I know is about the way light falls on a form, or the richness of color, and of course about the model as a unique being. Outdoor work is also about repeating lines and echoing the landscape, and evoking certain emotions with the relationship between the model and setting. Concepts always make me think of glamour shoots and people dressing up in costumes and acting weird for no particular reason I can discern.. much of the time, such work leaves me cold, or I find the model is all I can appreciate. I take models to interesting locations and look through the viewfinder at them, then suggest poses.. 99% of the time that's all the pre-conceptualization that takes place.
