About Me

Wanting to make my mark in the world of art I've come to Model Mayhem to seek the aid of all the fine people here. Essentially I am looking to produce reference photos for future paintings using the skills and talent of all these great photographers and models.

If you enjoy what you see and would like to lend a hand in helping me build our portfolios together then message me and we can work something out!

~ Cheers!
Alexander Clark

Artist Statement:

Like most of my fellow artists I was creating from the moment I could pick up a crayon. From those humble beginnings to today my focus in art has been the creation of beauty. Everything in life holds its own rare form of beauty which has led to a deep desire to capture it within art. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it is paying homage to the beauty that surrounds us every day. From the patterns in a fallen leaf, to the reflections in a glass of wine, art is all around.

As art is a direct reflection of its creator as well as the subject, my work is an outlet to convey, with paint and canvas, my thoughts and dreams. It is a way to share with others the discovery of hidden worlds, fantasies and inspiration. A continuing theme within all my work is one of mystery and magic, that sense of wonder we all have at the unknown. Drawing a good deal of influence from Celtic culture, which has not had much representation in today’s art world, I have tried to integrate it into most pieces.

I have worked almost entirely with acrylics on canvas, though an occasion oil painting has been known to surface. I find acrylic is less demanding than other forms of medium and allows me to paint layer upon layer of color without losing anything. The most challenging thing with acrylic is the length of time it takes for each layer to dry before applying the next, which can cause a simple painting to take weeks to complete. Though it is difficult to amass a large body of work in a short time with these methods the end result is worth the wait.

I’ve always been drawn to dramatic contrasts in light and dark. Like a flash of neon against a dark sky, it can completely mesmerize you. My work with this theme is very much influenced by the old Renaissance “chiaroscuro” techniques, emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow.

My hope is that my work will inspire people to revel in their own imaginations, take hold of their dreams and seek to reach new horizons. Art is within us all, we need only step back from our chaotic lives for a moment to find it and within that beauty there is peace.
