Friends (248)About Me
Hi everyone!
My name is Chris Scharffenberg and I have previously worked on and off as an event and model photographer for over 9 years. My earlier work had been focused mainly on tattooed and alternative models, formerly working with such outlets as Prick Magazine, Fracture Magazine, Suicide Girls, Inked Mag, the Los Angeles Derby Dolls and the Angel City Derby Girls. My current goals with photography are to broaden the types of clients I work with and to bring new and innovative ideas to traditional model photography. My professional working background is in the film & TV industry, within the Art Department, meaning that I am immersed in the world that designs and executes film sets, as well as dealing with Props. My desire is to apply a different and provocative spin on my photos utilizing a strong attention to detail involving objects and space. My particular style relies heavily on defying the mundane and I tend to gravitate towards images and subject matter that are strange and darker in nature. Being able to capture moments in space and time that make the viewer wonder what possessed someone to create that image is my ultimate objective. The reaction I want is more along the lines of "what the fuck", as opposed to "now that's a pretty picture." Anyone can take a headshot, but I choose to manipulate traditional photography into images that can shock, confuse, surprise, inspire or instill a feeling of uneasiness in the viewer. I'm a big fan of the snapshot aesthetic and I prefer to focus on style over technique, aiming for a more realistic, gritty image versus glossy and polished. Low key, minimal lighting, simple. Little to no editing and no Photoshop. I have also modeled myself for other photographer friends so my experience is on both sides of the lens. Due to this versatility my rule of thumb is that I would never ask a model to do anything that I wouldn't be willing to do myself. Artistic influences for me include the likes of Larry Clark, Harmony Korine, Nan Goldin, Guy Bourdin, Juergen Teller, Ellen von Unwerth, Ren Hang, Terry Richardson and Sticks and Stones Agency. I am currently updating my portfolio and am willing to do any TF shoots. I pride myself on the passion and professionalism I uphold regarding my work. I'm super easy going and a blast to work with and am open to any and all creative concepts! Please check my Instagram below for more updated photos. Let's get weird!
