September 15, 2020 11:47am This image is undercut in many ways. It echoes Renaissance attire, but the naked legs disturb that image. It becomes a sexual Prince (Medici). Then C14 Prince changes into a pantomime prince. Cross-dressing. Shakespeare. The tunic intimates a dress. Male as female. Male-female transformation (as in Woolf's Orlando). Courtiers at Elizabeth's court were feminised. So much pours into the image... C21 issues of gender performance. Brilliant idea with a perfect (chameleon) model.
